Mandate : To develop location and crop specific post-harvest engineering and technologies for reduction in quantitative and qualitative losses of farm produce and to adopt/develop post-harvest processes and equipment for value addition that would lead to higher income and employment generation in  target areas.

1.Development of sub-baric processor for conditioning, roasting and popping of millets.

2.Development of millet based instant mixes for diversified uses.

3.Optimization of process protocol for development of millet based kori rotti.

4.Enzymatic modification of protein isolate(/s) from sunflower seed de-oiled cake and its utilization/application in food product.

Mr. Basavaraj S. Gaddigeppagol was awarded SILVER MEDAL for Design &Development of Sunflower Dehuller, in the All India Design Competition for Engineering Students (underAgricultural Engineering Category) conducted by National Design and Research Forum of The Institution of Engineers (India).  Student was guidance by Dr. V. Palanimuthu, Research Engineer and Head, AICRP on PHET, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore.

 

  1. Thrust areas

Objectives:

  • To study the prevailing post- harvest practices and identify unit operations, equipments and their components that needs improvements or substitution
  • To develop and adopt farm level cleaners, graders and dryers for cereals, pulses, oil seeds, plantation crops, tubers and other field crops
  • To develop simple processes, low-cost equipments and pilot plants for farm/village level processing of grains, oilseeds and other crops both for rural consumption and better economic return
  • To develop simple processes and equipments suitable for farm/village level operation for better economic utilization of agricultural wastes and byproducts
  • To field evaluate laboratory proven technologies and carry out operational research on the developed technologies
  • To create post-harvest technology consciousness, transfer proven technologies in selected villages and monitor its effect on socio-economic development
  • To generate income and employment in rural areas through adoption of proven technologies and equipment by establishing agro-processing centres
