Chamarajanagara district currently has five taluk centers namely Gundlupet, Kollegala, Chamarajanagara, Yalandur and Hanur. Of which Chamarajanagara, Gundlupet and Hanur taluks practicing rainfed agriculture where as Kollegala and Yalandur taluks are having assured irrigation from Kaveri canal. The district has geographical area of 5648 sq. km predominant with red sandy and medium black soil receiving annual rain fall of 705 CM on an average.

Chamarajanagara district is known for highly diversified cropping system like paddy, sugarcane ragi jowar sorghum pulses and high value cash crops like turmeric zinger banana cotton fruits and vegetables plantation crops like areca nut and coconut and allied enterprises like sericulture, diary, apiculture, fishery besides its rich cultural heritage and eco-tourism spots including wild life.

Realizing the scope and importance of Agricultural education in rural areas, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore has rightly selected Chamarajanagar as an ideal location to start Agriculture College. Further, the UAS Bangalore has established a strong extension linkage like Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Research system through AICRP on cotton and Sorghum besides he graduates of agriculture released form this can definitely support the production system with well-trained manpower, genuine agricultural inputs like seeds, planting materials and other technical information on new technologies from time to time for the overall development of the rural community.

The college of Agriculture, Chamarajanagara started functioning during the year 2018 has successfully completed 04 years of faithful academic accomplishment. It was started as part of realization of Agricultural Education as envisaged by Govt. of Karnataka, in offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree programme. It is located at 05km away from Chamarajanagara city to words –Coimbatore Road and popularly known as Haradanahalli Farm. Presently 127 students from 4 batches are perceiving B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree from this college.

Hence, the college of Agriculture established in this district is very appropriate and the first batch of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture graduates released from this young college is an asset for the farming community.
