Shri Thawarchand Gehlot was born on 18th May 1948 and is currently serving as the 19th Governor of Karnataka from July 11, 2021. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vikram
University, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He was awarded Honorary Doctorate by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He was a member of the Rajya
Sabha, representing Madhya Pradesh. He served as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in the Government of India from 2014 to 2021. He was also the Leader of the House in the Upper House of Parliament.

MOVEMENTS

· From 1966 to 1970, remained in judicial custody many times in various movements and kept in Jails. In 1971, remained in Judicial Custody for 10 months in Bhairavgarh Jail, Distt. Ujjain.

 

·Went to Jail during Emergency (1975-76) under Misa (Internal Security Act) in Bhairavgarh, district jail, Ujjain.

 

·Remained under judicial custody many times due to political agitations in Ujjain, Bhopal and Delhi.
