B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering)

The degree programme was started in the year 1996-97. Twenty-one batches of B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) students have graduated till date.

Objectives
  • To develop quality human resources in diverse fields of Agricultural Engineering such as Farm Power and Machinery, Soil and Water Engineering and Processing and Food Engineering.
  • To impart specialized training in the area of Agricultural Engineering for developing skilled and experienced human resources.
Accomplishments

Since its inception, 634 students have graduated in B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering). The graduates are placed across the country and globe in various public and private institutions and industries like ICAR-ARS Scientists, Faculty in SAUs, Faculty in KVKs, and placed in various capacities in the Karnataka State Department of Agriculture, M/s. John Deere, M/s. Netafim Irrigations, M/s. Jain Irrigations, M/s. ITC, M/s. Mahindra and Mahindra, M/s. VST Tillers & Tractors, M/s. Kirloskar Industries, Banking sectors, Research & Development (R&D) divisions, Custom Hiring Centres, NGOs, etc. The graduates have qualified in various competitive examinations conducted by the National and International premier institutions for higher education and public services.

Achievements in Sports & Cultural 

The students of the department have participated in various sports and cultural activities in state and national level competitions. The major achievements are detailed below.

  • Participated in Asian Karate Championship held at Indonesia in November 2016.
  • Won 3rd place in All India Inter-University Karate Championship held at MDU Rohtak in February 2019.
  • Won 3rd place in National Championship organised by Karate association of India held at Delhi in May 2016.
  • Awarded 5 gold and 1 silver medal in State Federation Karate Tournaments (2015-2020).
  • Students stood first at Zonal Level Technical Evaluation and were Shortlisted for KRITAGYA- a National Level Ag. Tech. Hackathon organized by ICAR-NAHEP and Agricultural Engineering Division ICAR.
  • NSS students participated in third National Integration Camp held at Bangalore University, Bangalore during 24.01.2020 to 30.01.2020.
  • Participated in Pre-RD parade selection camp held at Karnataka University, Dharwad on 11.11.2020.
  • Represented Karnataka State in All India Agricultural University Sports Tournament and Won Silver Medal for UAS, Bengaluru.
  • Won 3rd Prize in One Act play in 16th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Youth festival 2015-16 from February 1-4, 2016 held at OUAT, Bhubaneshwar.
  • Participated in 19th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Youth Festival 2018-19 from February 3-7, 2019 at S.D. Agricultural University, Sardar Krushinagar, Gujarat.
  • Won 3rd Prize in One Act play during 20th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Youth Festival 2019-20 held at IGKV Raipur, Chhattisgarh from February 8-12, 2020.

Classroom & Laboratories

The Department has an adequate number of classrooms and laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities for effective delivery of course curricula to the students of the degree programme. Further the facilities available at the South block of the College of Agriculture, GKVK are also available for effectively conducting teaching.

Equipment
Practical & Hands on Trainings

Practical classes are designed for the students to practice Agricultural Engineering techniques and skills. For effective learning, the students are exposed to diverse types of practical classes. The “Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana (READY)” is conceptualized to reorient graduates of Agricultural Engineering subjects for ensuring and assuring employability and develop entrepreneurial skills. There are six courses offered under the student READY Programme and the students are placed at various Organizations / Institutions

Feedback of stakeholders

Feedback plays an important role in order to improve the educational quality, learning process, and the student performance. Feedback from the stakeholders provides an opportunity to improve upon the lacuna by adopting suitable measures.  The feedback from the industries/ organizations about the competence of the student’s knowledge and skill to match the field requirements. Feedback are obtained from the students, parents, industries/employers, farmers, and action taken by the college to solve the issues.

ICT Application in Curricula Delivery
  • During the delivery of curricula to the students, ICT tools are effectively used. All the lecture halls are provided with LCD projectors and an internet facility for better coverage of the curriculum. The faculty uses a combination of lectures and PowerPoint presentations to make the concepts/techniques clearly understandable to the students. The difficult concepts and operation of machinery/equipment are taught with videos. The students are also trained to make use of the facility for the presentation of term papers and assignments.
  • All information pertaining to the student activities namely, academic calendar, the timetable for the courses registered, schedule of examinations, internal marks scored by the students, semester results, etc. are displayed on the e-notice board of the college.
