Mandate:

To conduct coordinated trials for reducing crop losses caused by nematode pests

To demonstrate the nematode management technologies through on-farm trials.

Research Programmes:

A. Diversity and distribution mapping of economically important nematodes in the country

  •  A.1.Plant Parasitic Nematodes (PPNs)

B. Management of major nematode pests of cereals

  • B1. Screening, confirmation and evaluation of rice genotypes for resistance against Meloidogyne graminicola
  • B7. Management of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola in rice through chemicals
  • B8. Evaluation of some microbial consortium for management of root knot nematode, M. graminicola in transplanted rice
  • C1. Screening, confirmation and field evaluation of promising resistant germplasm of vegetable crops against root-knot nematode / reniform nematode (Cucurbits)
  • C2. Bio management of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) and bacterial (Ralstonia solanacearum) wilt complex in brinjal
  • C3. Organic management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne spp. infecting tomato in nursery
  • C5. Efficacy of Glomus fasciculatum in the management of Meloidogyne spp. in Carrot

D. Management Of Major Nematode Pests Of Pulse And Fodder Crops

  •  D1. Screening, confirmation and field evaluation of promising resistant germplasm of pulse crops against important nematodes (Green gram)

F. Management of major nematode pest in fruit and spices

  • F1. Screening of genotypes/varieties/accessions/root stocks/ wild species of different fruits crops against major plant parasitic nematodes (Banana- R.similis, Guava – M. enterolobii, Papaya- M. incognita, Pomegranate- M. incognita)
  • F2. Management of nematode-wilt disease complex in banana
  • F3. Management of root knot nematode and fungal wilt complex in guava
  • F5. Management of root knot nematode and fungal wilt complex in pomegranate
  • F8. Documentation of nematode infested horticultural nurseries in the state

G. Nematode management in protected cultivation systems

  • G1. Management of Meloidogyne incognita infecting cucumber under protected cultivation
  • G2. Efficacy of mycorrhiza in the management of Meloidogyne spp., in cucumber/capsicum under protected cultivation

H. Isolation, Evaluation and Mass multiplication of nematode antagonistic microorganisms

  • H2.  Shortlisting of the non-pathogenic fungi and bacteria and evaluation against Meloidogyne incognita
  • H3. Evaluation of available bacteria in the microbial collections against test nematode species
Research Accomplishments :

  • Management of  rice root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola on rice
  • Pasteuria penetrans @ 10 g culture (1×108 spores/g)/sq. m.  before sowing   for the management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in nursery beds of tomato
  •  Pasteuria penetrans @ 10 g culture (1×108 spores/g)/sq. m.  before sowing   for the management of  root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in nursery beds of  brinjal
  • Glomus fasciculatum @ 50 g culture (200 spores/g)/sq. m. before sowing for the management of  root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in nursery beds of brinjal
  • Glomus fasciculatum @ 50 g culture (200 spores/g)/sq. m. before sowing for the management of  root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita in nursery beds of tomato
  • Pasteuria penetrans @ 10 g (5×107 spores/g root powder ) mixed with 200 cc sand and evenly distributed per plant at planting and 45 days after planting  for the management of  burrowing nematode (Radopholus similis) in banana
  • Paring and pralinage operations in banana  before planting for the management of  the burrowing nematode, Radopholus similis infesting banana
  • Intercropping tomato with sweet potato cv. Shree Bhadra for the management of  root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita
