AICRP Scheme/ Unit : AICRP on Seed (Crops)

Location : UAS, Bangalore

Year of Start : 1979-80

Mandates:

Production and supply of breeder seeds as per the DA&FW indent of GOI, GOK and Private Seed Agencies.
Production and supply of quality seeds on University Seed Farms and Farmers field under Scientist-Farmers Participatory Program (SFPP) as per the Seed Village Concept.
To conduct research on seed technological aspects (seed production and certification; seed physiology, storage and testing; seed entomology; and seed processing) as per the national and regional mandates.
To impart training on seed production, processing, testing and storage both on-campus and off-campus.
To conduct Genetic Purity tests viz., GOT & Molecular Marker Analysis for different crop seeds to ascertain in-house quality assurance.
Implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes viz., SMSP, STP, SCP etc., to improve socio economic status of intended farmers of Karnataka

Timely supply of quality seeds of cereals, pulses and oilseed crops at reasonable price.
Custom seed processing.
Providing training to the personnel in the line development and farmers on quality seed production and testing both on-campus and off-campus.
Deploy and empower rural youth (both men & women) in quality seed production and to create employment at the rural level.
Dissemination of new variety/technology and its popularization.
Striving for enhanced VRR and SRR.
Improving the socio-economic conditions of the farming community through seed production and usage of quality seeds.
