Cotton, Chamarajanagar

AICRP Scheme/Unit : All India Coordinated Research Project on Cotton
Location : Chamarajanagara
Year of Start : 2014-15

Mandates :

  • To develop improved genotypes best suited for different agro-climatic conditions.
  • To develop agro-techniques for maximizing production under different situations
  • To develop economic and effective pest management practices under different agro-biological conditions.

Research Programmes : 2023-24

Agronomy :

  • Preparing for climate change: Drought management studies in cotton
  • Yield maximization of Bt cotton by integrated management techniques
  • Use of defoliants to facilitate mechanical picking
  • Developing and testing of organic nutrients, pests and disease management module in cotton based cropping system
  • Canopy management in compact genotypes
  • Growth and yield performance of barbadense varieties
  • Multi location testing of proven interventions: ELS cotton productivity enhancement through agronomic manipulation
  • Input use pattern and cost of cultivation

Entomology :

  • Screening of breeding material for resistance to insect pests
  • Seasonal dynamics to develop suitable forecasting model
  • Survey for key and emerging pests in cotton in farmers fields for weekly advisory
  • Microbial based volatiles for sucking pest management in Bt cotton
  • Integrated pest management in Cotton.
  • Evaluation and identification of suitable interventions for seed treatment in organic cotton production

Breeding :

  • Combined Evaluation trial of Inter-specific H X B Hybrids (New + Promoted Entries)- Irrigated
  • Br – 14 a CVT G. barbadense

Research Accomplishments :

Weed management :

  • Application of Tank mixture (Quizalofopethyl 50 g a.i/ha+ Pyrithiobac Sodium @ 62.5g a.i/ha) as a post emergent weedicide at 2-4 weed leaf stage + one hoeing
    Pest management:
  • For management of sucking pests (whiteflies, thrips, leafhoppers and aphids) spray Flonicamid 50 % WG @ 0.3g/l
  • For management of mirid bug in cotton spray Dinotefuran 20 SG @ 0.30 g/lt

Facilities Available: Scheme is functioning in KVK campus, hence the facilities are commonly used by all the staff.
