Year of Start : 1972
Mandate : To develop location and crop specific post-harvest engineering and technologies for reduction in quantitative and qualitative losses of farm produce and to adopt/develop post-harvest processes and equipment for value addition that would lead to higher income and employment generation in  target areas.
Research Projects in operation as on Sept, 2023 :

1.Development of sub-baric processor for conditioning, roasting and popping of millets.

2.Development of millet based instant mixes for diversified uses.

3.Optimization of process protocol for development of millet based kori rotti.

4.Enzymatic modification of protein isolate(/s) from sunflower seed de-oiled cake and its utilization/application in food product.

1. Parboiling studies to improve milling, functional and nutritional properties of buckwheat.

2. Development of PCM based reusable device for cooling beverages and liquid foods: A novel approach to replace ice in glass.

Ø  Besides R&D, the faculty actively involved in teaching and extension activities.

Ø  The faculty mentor and guide PG and PhD research scholars.

Ø  HRD programs: 9 Skill development programs/EDP/Capacity building programs were conducted during 2022-23.

Ø  Post-harvest Engineering & Technology demonstrations carried out in over 70 extension programs during 2022-23.

Ø   Faculty pro-active in contributing to University building activities.

Awards/Recognitions :

 1. Best center award of the year 2022-23 (2nd position) received from ICAR in 38th PHET annual workshop-2023.

2.Best center award of the year 2018-19 received from ICAR in 34th PHET annual workshop-2019.

3.Outstanding center award received from ICAR-QRT in 2017.

4.Best stall award in National Krishimela-2021 under Agricultural Machinery category at UAS, Bangalore.

5.Best stall award in International Krishimela-2019 under Agricultural Machinery category at UAS, Bangalore

6.Best stall award in National Krishimela-2018 under Agricultural Machinery category at UAS, Bangalore.

7.Scientific faculty received so many awards like Young Engineer Award, Young Scientist Award, Scientist of the Year Award, Karnataka Kalaa Kesari Award, etc.

Dr. D. Shobha Director of Research, UAS, Bangalore 2022 2024 Sweet and savoury candies were developed using centella asiatica. Banana pseudostem based RTC vermicelli bath mix and payasam mix were developed.
