AICRP Scheme / Unit : Inland Fisheries Unit
Location : Office; Behind College of Agriculture and Farm at J’ block, UAS (B), GKVK, Bangalore.
Year of Start : 1931 at Main Research Station, Hebbal, Bangalore and shifted to UAS, GKVK, Bangalore campus and officially started to work from 14.09.2022.
Vision :

v  Creation of a common response to develop fishery resources, sustainable utilization of its potentials in the Agrarian Scenario integrating in the region.

Mandate :

v  Undertake and support research for the development of appropriate fisheries and aquaculture technologies.

v  Human resource development at all levels on Inland Fisheries related issues, activities and practices.

v  Dissemination of potential technologies and related knowledge for wider adoption.

Research Programmes : Research on

v  Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia, all male seed production and farming

v  Different types of Aquaponics systems

v  Freshwater pearl farming

v  Fresh water ornamental fish breeding and farming

v  Development of farming technologies for freshwater fishes

Solar-powered rooftop Aquaponics Food Production System ; Obtained patent for the model under the  project “Utility of Table and Ornamental Fishes in Aquaponics for Production of Horticultural and Agricultural Crops”

v  Freshwater pearl farming technology

v  Freshwater Fish farming and seed rearing technologies
