Distance Education

Ours being basically an agrarian society, a majority of the population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. However, a big chunk of this section of the society is unable to practice agriculture on scientific principles, since they have limited exposure to formal education. To bridge this gap, the University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore (UASB) has started the Distance Education Programme, with the intention of reaching the unreached, and expand education in agriculture to a wider rural populace. The University has planned to offer courses on distance mode, on various aspects of agriculture, encompassing the components of crop production. Short certificate courses of one to two semesters duration will be offered initially. The network of KVKs, Teaching and Research campuses outside Bangalore will be networked as Study Centres, to enable candidates’ participation with minimum travel. At the Study Centres and the main campus at GKVK, the candidates will have an opportunity for one-to-one interaction with counsellors.

The Objectives of Distance Education are:
  • To promote learning through Distance mode.
  • To impart technical knowhow to literate farmers/farm women/youth.
  • To develop human resource capabilities in rural populace, especially for those Who have not been able to get formal education.
