• Development and evaluation of normal maize hybrids suitable for different seasons in southern Karnataka.
• Development and evaluation of specialty Maize (Sweet corn, Baby corn and Popcorn)   hybrids suitable for southern Karnataka.
• Evaluation of maize hybrids of different duration (maturity groups) in the coordinated trials.
• Station and multi-location evaluation of promising hybrids for different maize growing situations in Southern Karnataka.
• Development and evaluation of QPM hybrids for promoting as substitute / component   to normal maize to ensure nutritional security and higher productivity.
• To develop appropriate soil and nutrient management practices for maize and maize based inter crops for irrigated, command and rain fed areas.
• To develop, standardize and recommend appropriate plant protection measures against important insect pests and diseases of Maize and also to forecast the occurrence of important insect pests and diseases in these crops through survey and advanced forewarning systems.
• To take up seed production of different classes in Maize as per national and state indent in the research station and in the farmer’s field under SFPP programme.
• To impart training on new production practices/technologies and organizing Frontline demonstrations of new hybrids

v  Development of maize in breds resistant to TLB, Polysora, rust and PFSR and maintained for utilization and conservation.

v  Development of inbred lines and hybrids resistance to downy mildew disease.

v  Development of inbred lines and hybrids with drought tolerance.

v  Development of high yielding early and medium duration single cross hybrids for rain fed ecosystem in southern Karnataka.

v  Development and evaluation of high yielding sweet corn, popcorn and baby corn hybrids.

v  Development of value added products from normal and specialty corns (Sweet corn, popcorn, baby corn and QPM) and their commercialization.

v  Released high yielding, disease tolerant, stay green single cross Maize hybrid MAH-14-5 & MAH-14-138 suitable for cultivation in rainfed situation in southern Karnataka during 2017 & 2022 respectively.

v  Released high yielding, disease tolerant, stay green single cross hybrid Hema (NAH-1137) suitable for cultivation in Zone 4, 5, 6 and 7 during 2010.

v  Released high yielding and disease tolerant single cross hybrid Nithyashree (NAH-2049) suitable for cultivation in Zone 4, 5, 6 and 7 during 2006.

v  Released high yielding and disease tolerant Early maturity composite NAC-6002 suitable for cultivation in Zone 4, 5, 6 and 7 during 1999.

v  Released high yielding and disease tolerant Late maturity composite NAC-6004 suitable for cultivation in Zone 4, 5, 6 and 7 during 1998.

v  Identified 19 stable TLB resistant (NAI 137, 138, 142,161, 175, 176, 197, 204, 207, 209, 214, 226,  CML 226, 248,360, 410, HKI 163, SKV 50,  KUI 1411 and KUI 1411-A), 7 stable P. Rust resistant (NAI 137, 138, 142,161, 175, 176, 197, 204, 207, 209, 214, 226,  CML 226, 248,360, 410, HKI 163, SKV 50,  KUI 1411 and KUI 1411-A ) and 11 inbred lines (MAI-1, 2, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 16, 19, 20 and 21 ) which are consistently showing resistant and moderately resistant reaction to SDM.

v  Identified Azoxystrobin (Seed treatment @ 0.2% and spray @ 0.15%) as an alternate fungicide to metalaxyl + Mancozeb against SDM in maize.

v  A total of 166 demonstrations were successfully conducted under Tribal sub plan for popularizing the maize hybrids with improved production technology and 225 front line demonstrations were conducted to see the performance of maize hybrids.

v  Developed Maize value added products namely, Maize noodles, Pasta, Maize vermicelli, Laddu, Crispes, Papad were branded under brand name “Maizy”, Nutri mix, Maize idli mix and Maize vada mix were included in UAS (B) package of practice book.

v  Technologies on value added products of baby corn such as baby corn candy, baby corn Murabba, brining of baby corn, dehydration of baby corn and dry salting of baby corn were standardized and added to UAS(B) Package of practice book.

Ø  Commercialized the released maize hybrids and value added products and generated revenue to the University.

v  Screening facility for Turcicum Leaf Blight, Maize Downey Mildew and Fuserium Stalk Rot diseases under sick plot conditions.

v  Maize value addition and quality evaluation laboratory with facilities for proximate analysis of protein, fibre and amino acids etc….

v  Maize processing unit with value addition equipments like Maize pasta machine, Popcorn machine, Milling and Sealing etc…

v  Promotion released maize hybrids through large scale and front line demonstrations under FLD / TSP / SCSP programs.

v  Carrying various extension activities to promote maize production technologies and value added products in association with KVK’s, KSDA etc…

v  Rendering advisory services to the visiting farmers seaking information on maize production technologies, processing and value addition technologies through consultancy, Krushimela, Field days and training programs.
